Founded in 2007
Founded in 2007, the Iowa Independent Film Festival first opened its doors in Mason City and has been doing it ever since all the while expanding to nearby Clear Lake, Iowa.
With film entries all over the world and guest appearances by Judd Nelson (The Breakfast Club), Randal Kleiser (Grease), and Gary Kroger (Saturday Night Live), we're the festival so bag it takes two cities to host it!
The 17th annual IIFF will be held September 5-7, 2024.

I don't usually write reviews (I never did!), but while I've participated in dozens of festivals, the Iowa Independent FF was the only one which sent the trophy in France with a cash prize. This meant a lot to me, and I was already very honored to be selected in this festival made by wonderful and passionate people.

What a wonderful experience to be able to attend and see my feature Eyes Upon Waking shown on the big screen at this wonderful festival. All the festival directors made us feel welcome from the start and were very knowledgable. We felt like royalty and were well taken care of. I can not say enough great things about this festival, only that this is a must submit and attend. They really did find the best of the best to be shown in their festival and I encourage all filmmakers to submit and attend.
