Founded in 2007

Founded in 2007, the Iowa Independent Film Festival first opened its doors in Mason City and has been doing it ever since all the while expanding to nearby Clear Lake, Iowa.

With films entries all over the world and guest appearances by Judd Nelson (The Breakfast Club) Randal Kleiser (Grease), Gary Kroeger (Saturday Night Live), we're the festival that takes two cities to host it!

The 14th annual IIFF will be held September 9 - 11, 2021

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the Iowa Independent Film Festival relies enormously on the generosity of the Mason City & Clear Lake communities to present one of the top festival in the state of Iowa.

Our creative team at Sustainable Driftless, Inc. is thrilled to have had the opportunity to participate in the Iowa Independent Film Festival with our documentary "Decoding the Driftless," and we are so very appreciative of the recognition our film received there! The event was wonderful, and the hospitality for filmmakers was absolutely amazing! The folks at IIFF know how to do things right! A fest not to be missed!

Watching a Movie

Stephen Pruitt, Director

We really like this wonderful, indie festival. We've shown films there twice now, but were unable to attend the first time. Our experiences this year ('19) were terrific. The festival organizers are warm, and although the audiences could be larger, they were enthusiastic. And the location in Mason City (and Clear Lake) is absolutely top notch. If you attend, try to stay at the Historic Park Inn (designed by Frank Lloyd Wright). It's a one-of-a-kind experience!

Film Clapboard

Michael E. Berg, Director

First time visitor to IIFF. A festival with lots of heart, recommended to anyone in the Midwest to consider submitting and attending. The festival goes out of their way to make you feel welcome and provide opportunities for social gatherings. Highly recommended.
